Taxis at Heathrow's Stations & Terminals: What to Expect
Arriving at Heathrow by Elizabeth line, Tube or Heathrow Express? How taxis work at each terminal station, where to meet your driver and why pre-booking beats the rank.
Heathrow's Rail Stations
Heathrow has three rail stations, each built into its terminals:
- Heathrow Terminals 2 & 3 — Elizabeth line, Heathrow Express and Piccadilly line
- Heathrow Terminal 4 — Elizabeth line and Piccadilly line
- Heathrow Terminal 5 — Elizabeth line, Heathrow Express and Piccadilly line
Each station leads straight into the terminal, so picking up a taxi from a Heathrow station works the same way as picking one up after a flight.
Taxi Rank or Pre-Booked Cab?
Each terminal has a black cab rank outside arrivals. Black cabs are licensed and reliable, but they run on a meter — a short hop to a nearby town can be affordable, while a longer trip in heavy traffic can cost a lot more than you expected.
A pre-booked private hire taxi gives you a fixed price before you travel. Your driver meets you inside the terminal, so there's no queue. For trips to Slough, Windsor, Staines or anywhere beyond the M25, pre-booking is almost always the cheaper option.
Where to Meet Your Driver
On a meet & greet booking your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name board. If you've arrived by train, head up to arrivals level and call your driver — they'll direct you to the meeting point. Pre-booked cars use the short-stay car parks rather than the kerb.
